WEEE Stakeholder Consultation Summary of Responses now available

The Department of Business, Environment and Regulatory Reform (BERR) announced that the stakeholder consultation of the European Parliament and of the Council on WEEE needed to be completed and returned by the 5th June 2008 by interested parties.

Green Grants Machine Website launched

Finding grants for environmental projects can be a tiresome and longwinded activity, but a new website has been launched which may provide a short-cut.

The Green Grants website was launched last month (May 2008). It provides access to a FREE green funding database to find grants, loans and awards available to help your business go green and save on energy bills. You simply run a search and save it to your profile to receive automatic updates that will let you know when new grants that match your profile are launched, as well as any changes made to existing schemes.

Deadline looms for Producer Compliance Schemes

June 16th is the deadline for WEEE producer compliance schemes to submit their final evidence to meet their members' obligations, but there is still uncertainty whether a number of the schemes can obtain enough evidence to meet their obligations in time to reach this deadline.

Electrolink, who holds contracts with more civic amenity sites than any other scheme, has a large amount of surplus evidence. This surplus needs to be sold to other schemes that still require evidence to fulfill their obligations. For the system to work as intended these schemes must now buy evidence from Electrolink to comply with the law.

Launch of strategic report "Material Security: an approaching crisis?"

On the 29th April 2008 the Resource Efficiency Knowledge Transfer Network (Re-KTN), in partnership with the Associate Parliament Sustainable Resource Group, held a networking event at the House of Commons which was entitled "Materials Security: An Approaching Crisis?"

The event was attended by over 100 delegates from a variety of different fields, which included the waste management, academic, manufacturing and materials mining sectors.
